"Costume Change" was inspired by my daily walk through our neighborhood park with my four-legged friends. The path weaves its way through all sorts of attractive trees. But there is one that we always stop to enjoy, and you can see by the odd print in the snow we're not the only ones. This beautiful tree stands tall and bursting, full of vibrant sap-green waxy foliage in the summer. When fall arrives, the leaves turn orange, rusty, and deep, lush golden browns, like some swift costume change from a beautiful, billowing summer dress to a shimmering, elegant cocktail number for the evening. Its split middle comes into two equally large branches, almost making the tree symmetrical, giving the appearance of two arms up in the air, only adding to the impression of the costume change as a dancer spinning round and round.

It wasn't until someone asked me what kind of tree this was that I even considered what it would be. To me, it was just the dancer in the park, the one to stop and stare at. But once I could not answer, it truly bothered me that I did not know myself. After doing some reverse image searching of the leaves I had brought home in my pocket to colour match and the appearance of the similarities in the trunk, it appears to be a Laurel Leaf Willow. Although unless it tells me itself next time, I'm not 100% sure.
